She was a sports reporter for some of the biggest media outlets across the nation. Her time at The Washington Post was spent reporting on several Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. Nichols was awarded two Emmy Awards during her nine-year time with ESPN and was featured in many of the network's most popular programs like NFL Countdown or SportsCenter, was transferred to ESPN following 2004. She was also part of the network's Monday Night Football broadcasts as reporter on the sidelines. Her next assignment was CNN and Turner Sports. The first program she developed and hosted was named self-titled Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN and CNN International. The show drew millions of viewers from the whole world. During this time Nichols covered TNT's NBA broadcasts, including the playoffs, regular season, as well as All-Star teams. Also, she has worked at TBS in the capacity of a journalist who covers golf and baseball broadcasts. CBS broadcasted the Final Four. It is the only nomination in the 42 years that have preceded this award to a woman among more than 200 nominated contenders.
